The Issue

Every summer students from low socio-economic backgrounds fall two months behind peers from higher-income families in academic skills, a deficit that grows to a full academic year by fourth grade. The consequences, both in performance and self-esteem, can be devastating for these students and our communities. In 2011, The Rand Corporation published a compelling report about this disturbing summer deficit. Impact 360 Summer Success wants to lead change for these students and the Charleston community.

Impact360 Summer Success, a Charleston collaborative of more than 15 non-profits led by Kids on Point (formerly known as Charleston Urban Squash), is a six week cross-sectoral educational experience for 150 K-12 students. This summer they are coming together to bring a unique and exciting comprehensive program, designed to offer each kid a seamless learning environment that connects opportunities across developmental stages, calendar time, and learning environments. We need the support and power of the Charleston community. We need you!.

The Opportunity at the College of Charleston

We have designed a six-week comprehensive summer academic and enrichment program at the College of Charleston. Impact360 Summer Success focuses on:

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)
Literacy
Athletics
Life Skills Development
Arts
Civic Engagement Opportunities
Local Cultural Education and Field Trips
Health and Wellness

Partnering Organizations

This extraordinary opportunity is occurring through a coalition of local principals, teachers, parents, community partners and nonprofits, working in Title 1 schools. Recognizing first hand the adverse effects of summer learning loss, they are joining forces in a comprehensive way to support their kids over the summer when the gains made during the school year can be easily erased.
